How long does it take to train to be a construction site security guard?

Training to be a security guard is all about acquiring peak physical fitness and proper training in arms and hand-to-hand combat. There are several training courses available for aspiring security guard candidates who want to adopt security as a profession. These security guards training courses have varying periods as every course has a different level of training. After the training course is completed, you're required to pass a test before you can get your security guard license. Some candidates may not be able to pass the test on the first try and so the time it takes an individual to train to be a security guard can vary. While most security guard training courses only take a few months at most, if you want to have some additional skills such as specialized driving skills, it can take extra time.

Even if you are ex-military or law enforcement, you will have to take security guard training courses as the skillset required for being in the military or police is not the same as being a security guard, although there are many overlapping areas. While people usually don't see any difference between the two professions, the basic difference is the fact that military is supposed to be on the offense, while the main job of a security guard is to protect and therefore, defend.

Regardless, having passed a security guard training course helps secure security jobs easily. For those who want to work in construction site security, the requirements are very much the same as any other security job, but there are some additional requirements. While you can get a license for working as a security guard, it's important that you get the additional license that is required to work as a security guard in construction.

Candidates who want to work as construction site security guards should have passed a prior security guard test. 

If no previous training has been received, it should be the priority of anyone who wants to have a license to work as construction security. After the proper training has been obtained, which can take three to six months, the candidate must take another training course known as Safety and Health in a Construction Environment. This training course can last two to five days for individuals who haven't worked in the construction industry before. For individuals with prior experience, it's only a one-day long training course. The course covers all the essentials such as work safety while working at a height or around construction equipment.

Once the proper training has been received, the candidate can apply for a license in construction security, having covered all the necessary requirements. It should be remembered that these requirements may vary from region to region. Nevertheless, becoming a security guard at a construction site is very much the same as being a security guard at homes, malls, or other public places except for an additional training course that only lasts a week at most.
